SNL Crisis Management Plan

Created as my final project for Entertainment Crisis Management; I created a crisis management plan for SNL if they had a host go completely go off the rails on live television.

Takeaways:

Creative problem solving gets easier the more you let go. Trying to draw a path to the correct answer isn’t as straight forward in the entertainment industry as it is in other fields. Trying to find solutions for out of the ordinary problems requires out of the box style thinking. Let your mind play with the possibilities.

Know the companies history and media style. Choosing to create a crisis strategy for SNL gave me one strong advantage: History. SNL has been live on the air for 50 years and with that comes a strong sense of identity and public voice. When I was writing the official statement for this assignment, I referenced SNL’s broadcast note from the Martin Lawrence 1994 episode.

Copywriting as a skill. Knowing how to sound like a brand/company takes a lot of research and understanding of the companies core values. When you know the core values that shapes how you speak about things, how you handle day-to-day operations, and more importantly, it shapes how you deal with big issues and what you consider important versus unimportant.
